 There are so many wonderful things about summer: sandy beaches, backyard barbecues, and of course, road trips! But before you hit the road, here are a few things you should make sure are taken care of - before you encounter a vehicle travel emergency: Gas Level - Don't let the gas level get below one-quarter of a tank. It may be enticing to tempt fate for a gas station farther down the road, but sediments from gasoline may settle at the bottom of the gas tank. When you let your gas level run low, you force your car to use the dirtiest gas in the tank, which might get into your vehicle's fuel line and even the engine. Emergency Kit - Carry an emergency kit with a flashlight, extra batteries, warning devices such as flares or reflective triangles, jumper cables, a first-aid kit, and extra water, especially during the hot summer months. You never know what situation will arise during a road trip and having these essentials in your vehicle may help you in certain situations. Battery Life - Hot weather may shorten the life of a vehicle's battery. Heat causes battery fluid to evaporate, which damages the internal structure of the battery. Make sure to keep the top of the battery clean, because dirt becomes a conductor, which may drain battery power.
